Whistler, BC: Starting this Friday, public guests will again be able to try the popular Passenger Bobsleigh and Public Skeleton activities at the Whistler Sliding Centre. Public sliding on ice will be available through the winter until March 27, 2022. No experience is required for the activities. The unique rides are $199 per person, and because the Whistler Sliding Centre is a non-profit organization, all proceeds from these activities go directly towards growing sliding sports, and support bobsleigh, skeleton and luge athletes who train at the venue.

In Passenger Bobsleigh, guests slide in a four-person bobsleigh that is driven by a trained pilot, through ten corners of Canada’s only active sliding track with speeds of up to 125 km/hr. Rides will be available Wednesdays through Sundays, plus on additional dates through the holidays. Minimum age for bobsleigh is 14. In Public Skeleton, guests slide through the track’s final six corners with speeds of up to 100km/hr, solo on their own skeleton sled. Skeleton rides are offered on Saturdays and Sundays, minimum age for skeleton is 16. Both activities include an orientation and background information on the Whistler Sliding Centre’s sports, its athletes and operation. For both activities, participants must meet specific physical, health and safety requirements.

Tracy Seitz, Managing Director of the Whistler Sliding Centre, is excited about the start of the public activities: “We are in an Olympic year, so it is extra special that we can give public guests the opportunity to slide like an Olympian themselves, and to give them a first-hand experience of our sports. They will watch the Olympic races in February with a completely different appreciation, and hopefully cheer on our athletes even more.”

The Whistler Sliding Centre has already been open for athlete training and competition since October 19 this year, and hosted a major international bobsleigh and skeleton event featuring over 100 top athletes from around 30 nations.
