The sliding International Training Weeks (October 26 to November 16) provided approximately 330 bobsleigh and skeleton athletes from 26 nations and over 150 luge athletes from 29 nations with a final opportunity to conduct official training on the track, prior to the 2010 Winter Games. A total of over 4000 runs were taken by athletes, which provided a valuable opportunity to prepare for the 2010 Winter Games.
The Whistler Sliding Centre Tour Program success
Since opening, The Whistler Sliding Centre has introduced sliding sports to over 78,000 visitors, including 18,000 this past summer, hosted three world cup competitions and welcomed over 1,100 sliding athletes. This past 2008/2009 season alone, 15,000 runs were taken on the track.
Effective Sept. 1st, the venue will be closed to general public access to allow for safe and efficient Games preparations including equipment load-in, overlay construction and track testing. Day skier lots 7 and 8 will also be closed to the public to allow for Games operations.
