Summer Operations Rep – Student

The Summer Operations Rep must be a student registered in full-time studies in the previous academic year and intend to return to their studies in the next academic school year. This is a varied position which works in all roles associated with the Summer Bobsleigh Experience program at Whistler Sliding Centre.  Reporting to the Manager, Guest Services / Manager, Track Operations duties include rotating through all roles associated with the program including venue operations.  This role is organized and friendly and works well within the team while demonstrating the Whistler Sport Legacies’ philosophy that All Interactions Matter (AIM).  This role requires flexibility to work weekends and evenings.

Responsibilities: 

The student must be:

  • registered in full-time studies in the previous academic year and intend to return to their studies in the next academic school year
  • between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under Immigration and Refugee Protection Act(2) (2=foreign students are not eligible), and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations
  • able to work 32-40 hours per week
  • able to start by June 5, 2017
  • agree to work until August 25, 2017
  • agree to work 9 weeks scheduled between June 5 and August 25

Responsibilities:

  • Interact with guests to provide high level of customer service
  • Greet guests and assist them to register for the Summer Bobsleigh Experience program
  • Work on a rotation with the Guest Service team in all positions within the Summer Bobsleigh Experience program – duties may include:
  • Gather and process participant information and waivers
  • Equipment safety inspections, e.g., helmets
  • Lead program safety presentation
  • Maintain radio communications with Control Tower
  • Shuttle/walk participants to start and return
  • Safely unload sled into ready position
  • Safely load guests into sled
  • Recap safety components and final check of guest equipment and comfort level
  • Assist pilots at Finish Dock, and assist guests to unload safely
  • Safely load sled onto truck
  • Track maintenance, as assigned
  • Process public sliding information requests and bookings by phone and/or email and send confirmations as directed
  • Assist in general up-keep of the Guest Services areas, including the daily set up of equipment and displays indoors and outdoors
  • Assist with general site maintenance as directed
  • Landscape duties as assigned
  • Proactively continue to evolve the Sport and Guest Services department to exceed the expectations of our guests
  • Adhere to all safety standards as outlined by WSL
  • Adhere to the Summer Bobsleigh Experience program procedures and protocols
  • Carry out Whistler Sport Legacies’ customer service philosophy AIM:All Interactions Matter
  • Assist team with other duties as assigned or required
Education/Experience: 
  • High School education an asset
  • Previous Guest Service experience required

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Experience driving on mountain roads is mandatory
  • Willingness to assist other team members (perhaps outside the department) as needed and requested
  • Passion for exceptional customer service is essential

Languages:

  • Fluency in English required
Physical Requirements: 
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to regularly lift 50lbs
