Summer Operations Rep – Student

The Summer Operations Rep must be a student registered in full-time studies in the previous academic year and intend to return to their studies in the next academic school year.  This role works in a variety of capacities from Guest Services and Operations at Whistler Olympic Park. The guest experience is enhanced by their ability to share information, educate, and engage. Duties may include guest services, trail and operations maintenance, custodial, and assistance with sport camps. Excellent customer service, a high level of product knowledge, and great interpretive and interpersonal skills are required for this position. This role is organized and friendly and works well within the team while demonstrating the Whistler Sport Legacies’ philosophy that All Interactions Matter (AIM). This is a summer seasonal role and requires ability to work weekends.

Responsibilities: 

The student must be:

  • registered in full-time studies in the previous academic year and intend to return to their studies in the next academic school year
  • between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under Immigration and Refugee Protection Act(2) (2=foreign students are not eligible), and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and regulations
  • able to work 32 hours per week
  • able to start by June 5, 2017
  • agree to work until August 25, 2017
  • agree to work 11 weeks scheduled between June 5 and August 25

Responsibilities:

  • Welcome guests at the gate with information about activities and safety within WOP
  • Ensure a safe and inviting environment for camp participants and guests
  • Support summer sport camps (biathlon, orienteering, ski jumping, rollerblading/roller skiing, etc.) as directed
  • Sell entry fee and Biathlon Experience to guests at Gate House
  • Patrol the park, interacting with guests and ensuring safety rules are being followed
  • Assist with general site maintenance as directed
  • Operate all equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Landscape duties as assigned
  • Assist with building and maintaining recreational trails
  • Ensure all public areas are kept clean, including public washrooms and Day Lodge
  • Assist in group sales activities
  • Develop a high level of product knowledge for every product and service that we provide
  • Accurately compile and summarize information as requested
  • Carry out Whistler Sport Legacies’ customer service philosophy AIM: All Interactions Matter
  • Assist team with other duties as assigned or required
Education/Experience: 
  • Experience working in a customer service oriented position is an asset
  • First Aid qualifications an asset
  • Knowledge of the Olympic Nordic disciplines (cross-country skiing, biathlon, ski jumping, and Nordic combined) an asset

Skills:

  • Reliable transportation (WOP is not serviced by transit)
  • Excellent "in person" customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to do custodial duties as required
  • Willingness to assist other team members (at times outside of the department) as needed and requested
  • Passion for exceptional customer service is essential
Physical Requirements: 
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to regularly lift 50lbs
