Maintenance Associate

Whistler Athletes Centre

Under the direction of the Manager, Facilities and the Manager, Whistler Athletes’ Centre, the Maintenance Associate performs general preventative maintenance and repair duties for assigned buildings, furnishings, and equipment at Whistler Athletes’ Centre facilities.  Required duties include painting, basic carpentry, cement work, plumbing, and related work, in addition to responding to guest related issues.  This Regular Full Time position frequently works independently during evenings and some days, providing coverage for the Manager, Facilities.

Responsibilities: 
  • Work with and under the direction of the Manager, Facilities and the Manager, Whistler Athletes’ Centre
  • Prepare and paint walls, woodwork and complete other types of refinishing work
  • Perform interior and exterior custodial duties as needed and directed
  • Assist as directed in the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems, such as plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems
  • Maintain kitchen appliances as required and directed
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests as required
  • Ensure safe access to and around facilities is maintained
  • Manual snow clearing in and around buildings and structures
  • Positively represent the organization’s mission, vision, and values
  • Foster a strong culture of health & safety; work with Human Resources and Safety to ensure all WorkSafeBC and BC Safety Authority requirements are met
  • Operate tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, saws, drills, and wrenches in a safe and responsible manner
  • Handle all maintenance products in a safe manner and according to WHMIS guidelines
  • Work with limited supervision; follow oral and written instructions; form and maintain effective working relationships with others internally and externally
  • Positive representative of Whistler Sport Legacies, both internally and externally
  • Take personal accountability and responsibility for actions; take initiative to find creative solutions to problems or issues

  • Assist team with other duties as assigned or required
Education/Experience: 
  • High School graduate
  • 1+ years experience in related field preferred
  • Knowledge of the materials, tools, methods, and equipment used in a building trade such as carpentry, plumbing, and painting
  • Experience working with required tools and materials
  • Knowledge of WorkSafe BC and WHMIS practices
  • Valid British Columbia driver’s license

Physical Requirements: 
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Physically fit and able to work for periods of time standing, crouching and kneeling
  • Able to climb and work from ladders
  • Ability to regularly lift 50lbs
