First Aid Attendant

Job Location: 
Whistler Olympic Park

Summer season:  First Aid Attendant duties include carrying out general site maintenance, first aid response, building maintenance, trail maintenance, landscaping, capital projects work, assisting summer activity staff, custodial work, and event support.  Winter season:  combination of First Aid Attendant and Ski Patrol ensures the safety of all users of Whistler Olympic Park (WOP).  Duties include responding to all first aid requirements in a professional and timely manner.  This temporary full time dual role has varied shifts including flexibility to work weekends and evenings.

Responsibilities: 

Ski Patrol

  • Work with and under the direction of the Supervisor, Ski Patrol and Safety and other Pro and Volunteer Patrollers
  • Provide first aid to public, athletes, and colleagues
  • Ensure public safety at WOP
  • Maintain records of all weather, accidents, occurrences, and actions
  • Maintain signage and fencing
  • Build and maintain Snowshoe trails
  • Assist Supervisor, Ski Patrol and Safety with colleague and volunteer training
  • Operate all equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Interact with volunteers to ensure their inclusion in department team
  • Carry out Whistler Sport Legacies’ AIM philosophy:  All Interactions Matter
  • Assist the team with other duties as assigned or required

First Aid Attendant

  • Work with and under the direction of the Supervisor, Maintenance and Operations, and other Operations staff
  • Provide first aid to public, athletes, and colleagues
  • Ensure public safety at WOP
  • Foster a strong culture of health & safety; work with Human Resources and Safety to ensure all WorkSafeBC and BC Safety Authority requirements are met
  • Maintain records of first aid response, accidents, occurrences, and actions
  • General site and building maintenance
  • Other operational tasks as directed
  • Assist with event production
  • Assist summer activity staff
  • Lift operations duties including assisting with the safe uploading and downloading of athletes, coaches, staff, and visitors when required
  • Ski Jump preparation
  • Snowmaking if required and dependent upon the snow season
  • Manually clear snow from around buildings, walkways, stairs, and other areas as directed
  • Custodial duties on an as needed basis
  • Operate all equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Interact with volunteers to ensure their inclusion in department team
  • Carry out Whistler Sport Legacies’ AIM philosophy:  All Interactions Matter
  • Assist the team with other duties as assigned or required
Education/Experience: 
  • 1-3 years of experience as a pro patroller
  • First Aid OFA Level 3 required
  • Experience in outdoor environments
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and abstract required
  • Class 4 BC Driver’s License an asset
  • Avalanche Skills Training Level 1, Operations Level 1 preferred
  • Experience operating skid steer equipment an asset
  • High rope certification or experience with ropes an asset
  • Experience operating snowmobiles and ATV’s an advantage
  • Knowledge of radio protocol
  • Safety conscious to ensure safety of guests, athletes, staff

Skills:

  • Keen and can-do attitude
  • Handy-man skills an asset
  • Willingness to assist other team members (perhaps outside the department) as needed and requested
  • Exceptional customer service is essential
Physical Requirements: 
  • Reliable transportation (WOP is not serviced by transit)
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather winter conditions performing physically demanding tasks
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to regularly lift 50lbs
