Bobsleigh Pilot

Job Location: 
Whistler Sliding Centre

Bobsleigh Pilot is a skilled position that takes groups of guests down the track in a four person bobsleigh at the Whistler Sliding Centre.  Reporting to the Manager, Guest Services this role adheres to established track safety protocols.  This role requires flexibility to work weekends and evenings.

Responsibilities: 
  • Conducts pre-checks of sleds before sessions
  • Pilot guests in a four-man WSC public bobsleigh on the Whistler track
  • Interact with guests to provide high level of customer service
  • Participate in a meet and greet pre-session as well as a post-ride guest follow up session
  • Foster a strong culture of health & safety; work with Human Resources and Safety to ensure all WorkSafeBC and BC Safety Authority requirements are met
  • Adhere to the program procedures and protocols
  • Upon the request and in agreement with the WSL program coordinator, participate in other activities as may be required
  • Carry out Whistler Sport Legacies’ AIM philosophy:All Interactions Matter
  • Assist team with other duties as assigned or required
Education/Experience: 
  • Must meet the criteria as an experienced sliding athlete and a trained bobsleigh pilot. Criteria is as follows:
  1. Experienced Sliding Athlete
    Competed as a bobsleigh pilot, skeleton, or luge athlete for a minimum of two years in the last five years at an international level

    Trained Bobsleigh Pilot
  2. Successfully completed two bobsleigh school courses (one at the Whistler Sliding Centre and one at any other track) run by an official sliding sport organization within the last two years, and provide evidence of this in the form of a certificate or license and;
  3. Successfully completed a minimum of 250 runs in a bobsleigh (two or four-man) from the top of any other track or from Damen at the Whistler Sliding Centre including:
  • A minimum of 50 runs in a four-man sled (if intending to pilot from Damen) or
  • A minimum of 10 runs in a four-man sled (if intending to pilot from Novice).  Proof of runs completed successfully must be provided in the form of a sign off by a coach or track.

  • Willingness to assist other team members (perhaps outside the department) as needed and requested
  • Passion for exceptional customer service is essential
Physical Requirements: 
  • Must pass a pre-season medical assessment
  • Must undergo cognitive testing throughout the season
  • Must pass a documented competency assessment for each start position with on site coach
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to regularly lift 50lbs
